Shadow Vessel - Conversion
This case study is a proposal to convert an existing commercial vessel into a modern luxury shadow vessel. The converted interpretation should boast a sleek and refined exterior design fitting for a support craft in the superyacht market.
Proposal One

Overall this vessel offers a modern design which would not be out of place either in tandem with the owner's superyacht or at a distance providing the support role.

The shadow concept is primarily a support vessel with several high capacity storage areas which can accommodate a large varity of equipment, various sized yachts up to 19m in length and a medium-lift helicopter.

The fore decks have been dramatically increased due to the redesign of the superstructure allowing up to 20 crew berths and an impressive owner's deck of 100m2. This improves the craft's versatility and effectiveness to fulfill its role as a luxury support vessel.
Proposal Two

The exterior design conveys a minimalist and modern image whilst retaining purpose and honesty in appearance.

The clean lines, sleek features and architecture more commonly associated with a luxury yacht can be applied to this type of conversion to create a stylish support vessel.

The housing at the stern has dual use as both a sun lounge area while offering abundant storage space. The low deck level at the stern allows great access to embark / dis-embark to tender craft.

The above views show the ample deck space, easily capable of stowing several tenders / performance motor yachts up to 23 meters in length. The stern housing below the helideck also offers generous storage space for smaller toys such as jetskis and other watersports equipment.

These plan views show the layout of the ‘hidden’ decks and how the refurbished space could be best used with regards to crew accomodation and storage of provisions for the main vessel.
